These finishes will have you bouncing off the walls

A nice, fresh coat of paint is often enough to brighten up a room. But for homeowners looking to elevate their space even more, stopping at a one-dimensional color might not be enough. Instead, they might want to consider adding a wall finish.

The term “wall finish” often encompasses paint, paneling and everything in between. To purists, however, a finish doesn’t simply cover the wall like wallpaper or fabric. Rather, the finish becomes the wall.

Atlanta Home Show feature guest Julie (Jooj) Neary is an award-winning artisan known for fine art painting, wood carving and stained glass work. She also creates one-of-a-kind wall finishes for commercial and residential clients around the country for her company Nvision Designs.

Using a variety of techniques such as ragging and stippling, she can simulate the look of textures ranging from concrete to linen on walls. Fortunately, creating impactful wall finishes doesn’t require artistic ability. Sponging and using stencils, for example, are two good techniques for beginners to try.

Check out Julie in action as she demonstrates wall finishing techniques in booth 424 throughout the weekend:

• Friday, March 18: noon and 2 p.m.
• Saturday, March 19: 12:30 and 3:30 p.m.
• Sunday, March 20: 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
